I saw a lot of people fishing here when we passed by. The road up
from Tin Cup is graded and most any vehicle can get here from Tin
Cup. If you plan to continue over Tin Cup pass to St. Elmo, you really
need a 4WD. To those that will go to the pass, follow the road along the
side of the lake (on the right in this picture), and you will cross a
small mountain stream and on to the pass.
Trout are what this lake has in it. They like the cold waters and tend to bite in the early morning. I have had them take spinner bait, but to be honest with you, a worm and a small hook seem to work the best. |

The water here is extreamly cold - you won't be swimming in this lake. If you plan to fish, you'll need a Colorado Fishing License (around $20.00 for any Colorado resident over 12 years old, under 12 fish for free). Many places that sell sporting goods also sell fishing licenses. Keep in mind that the sport is called Fishing and not Catching - expect to spend a lot of time sitting around and enjoying the scenery. If you come down from Tin Cup Pass, you get to cross the creek - there are 2 different places to cross - pick the one with the lowest water level (both will have the creek bottom covered in stones - never attempt to cross in mud unless you want to get towed out). Please be careful around the rocks - this is a good place to scrape up your vehicle if you don't take your time and choose your path. The road down to Tin Cup from Mirror lake is well graded and should be and an easy (but possibly bumpy) trip. There is a nice rest area (with rest rooms) a few miles down from the lake. |
